American Society of Cinematographers (ASC) Releases ‘Best Of 1998 – 2008’ Winners List

The American Society of Cinematographers, the honor guild of cinematographers, has released the results of an online poll of the "best shot" movies from 1998 - 2008. There were over 50 nominees from the past decade that were dwindled down to the top 10 winners.

There are some major players in this group, including Conrad Hall, Roger Elswit and Roger Deakins aka the Deaks.

  1. Amélie: Bruno Delbonnel, ASC, AFC
  2. Children of Men: Emmanuel Lubezki, ASC, AMC
  3. Saving Private Ryan: Janusz Kaminski
  4. There Will Be Blood: Robert Elswit, ASC
  5. No Country for Old Men: Roger Deakins, ASC, BSC
  6. Fight Club: Jeff Cronenweth, ASC
  7. The Dark Knight: Wally Pfister, ASC
  8. Road to Perdition: Conrad L. Hall, ASC
  9. Cidade de Deus (City of God): César Charlone, ABC
  10. American Beauty: Conrad L. Hall, ASC

The ASC conducted the poll through their magazine and garnered over 17,000 votes for the final. Said winner Bruno Delbonnel, ASC, “These are some of the finest cinematographers, and I’m not sure I deserve to be among them, but I am very happy to be. They are all explorers.”
