ARRI Alexa Camera Simulator

Arri Alexa Camera Simulator

If there was one thing other digital camera manufacturers should note about the Alexa, it's the streamlined menu system and user-interface. It certainly swayed my opinion on the Alexa. For those without $50k in the pocket, it's now possible to mess around with this menu system without the camera in hand.

On the Arri Digital website, there is a little applet that allows you to “familiarize yourself with the menu navigation of the new ARRI ALEXA Digital Camera.” Simply click your mouse, or touch your screen, to use it. The description clarifies that it currently reflects Arri’s 2.0 Software Update.

One of the things I really enjoyed about the Alexa was it’s menu navigation and setup. This is a great tool to have instead of simply reading a manual. It is a really intuitive UI and is easy to master. This should be good news for anybody about to shoot on Alexa who hasn’t gotten a chance to get their hands on it. Couple this with some tree structure menu maps and anybody should be ready to go on day 1 of shooting no problem.

With the advent of digital cinema filmmaking there is also the advent of sometimes daunting and endless menu structures in the cameras designed for the revolution. Although RED supplies it's own map to navigate these mazes of user interface, the Alexa (probably because it's new) does not provide it's own. Luckily, somebody over at thefilmbook.com has put together one.
