No matter what the overall opinion is on the ending of LOST, it’s undeniable that the show is one of the greater television events of the past decade. Part of the enjoyment of watching LOST, for myself, was the cinematography and production value that went into the show. I recently found a video online of Terry O’Quinn, who plays John Locke in the show, talking about the crew behind the camera and how their technical abilities helped enable the art of LOST. Video after the jump.
Unlike some (few) crew, I don’t have a smug view on the world of production and think that my job goes too unnoticed – in fact, I think that’s how it should be. But, I do think the most professional actors/actresses are the ones that can acknowledge that filmmaking is as much about their craft as everyone else. Whether that means hitting a mark like Michael Caine or doing more takes as Terry O’Quinn says, having talent that appreciates the technical nature of what a crew does is a relief to everybody on set. As O’Quinn says in the video, “it’s as much their art as it is yours.”
